Max George and Nathan Sykes have taken to Twitter today to clarify their comments made to The People and The Metro, after receiving abuse from angry Directioners upset at their supposed “hate” towards One Direction.
Max allegedly spoke about how he believed only kids would be interested in 1D, directly comparing them to the Jonas Brothers, and saying: “I’m not sure how well they’re actually doing yet. They’re more faces, if you know what I mean.” … “They make magazines instead of actually hearing them on the radio”.
Nathan also said: “If you look at One Direction’s chart position and then look at ours, they’re not really even our rivals. They have different fans to us. We don’t want their fans, they’re too young.”
He went on to say: “We like to sit and write our songs, decide what we do but, like any of The X Factor acts, One Direction don’t really have much of a choice about what they do.”
But now both boys have retracted their comments, saying they were taken out of context, with Max tweeting: “Just to clear up… I think interviews have been twisted and made into much dramtatic than what they were.. We appreciate all other artists (sic)”.
He followed up with another tweet, saying: “And all fans of any age, whether youre 1 or 90. Anyone who says or thinks different is full of s**t. Hope this puts peoples minds at rest xx”.
Nathan also tweeted: “When someone takes your words and twists them its like a knife in the back #whathappenedtothegoodguys?!”
The ongoing US chart war between The Wanted and One Direction is one of the most exciting British battles of recent years. Currently TW have the upper hand but much is expected of “What Makes You Beautiful” when it gets a full release with increased radio play.
