To celebrate the release of Hop on DVD, J-14 caught up with Cody Simpson, who sings the film’s theme song “I Want Candy,” and asked him about everything from “So Listen” to The Hunger Games! We also scored 10 copies of Hop on DVD signed by Cody himself! Click HERE to enter!

J-14: What was it like working on the Hop movie soundtrack?
Cody Simpson:
It was sweet! I just checked out the demo that they did on the DVD, and it was amazing. It was my first time working on a movie project, where I got to put a song together and get creative, and do something other than my album or my project. It was cool to be able to do that for a movie, especially one that was as big as Hop.

J-14: When you tell a girl, “I want candy,” what kind of sweets should she get you?
Cody:
Chocolate. Kit-Kats!

J-14: And you’re continuing your Easter spirit by performing at the White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday, April 9!
Cody:
I’m very excited for that! I actually went last year, but I was just sitting down playing guitar, so I’m actually excited to put on a show at the White House. I haven’t been to DC in a while.

J-14: Fans are loving your new single “So Listen”! It’s a different sound for you — is that what we can expect on Paradise?
Cody:
I thought it was cool to show a little bit of an edgy side of the album first off on “So Listen” and then we have another single coming later on this month that is a very pop/dance track and I definitely get a amazing feeling from that song.

Cody Simpson pledges his love for the late Farrah Fawcett with a tee-shirt as he and a few friends arrive at Katsuya in Hollywood on Thursday evening (April 5).

Pal and peer Justin Bieber recently stood up for Cody, 15, during a radio interview.

Justin told the hosts of the Johnjay & Rich show, “First of all, be nice, because, I mean, Cody‘s a talented kid,” when they asked why he would want to collaborate with Cody.

Catching up with Popstar!Cody responded about the incident, “It’s cool [that Justin stood up for me]. I think something that people are starting to see is that with everyone in the new generation it’s all love and everyone supports one another…Justin and I have a great relationship at the moment. He’s been an incredible encouragement to what I do, and obviously it showed in the interview that he’s not going to take any BS from people about friends and fellow artists.”
