The Vampire Diaries recab: “The Hybrid”
What happened: Well, it was another wacky episode from our friends in Mystic Falls. Elena, who will not take no for an answer, convinces Alaric to help her track down Stefan in Tennessee. On a full moon. Where there will be an entire colony of werewolves. Oh, Elena… Anyway, although he is so not into it, Alaric agrees and off they go. Of course, he secretly calls his BFF Damon, who comes to help them out. Turns out Stefan and Klaus have tracked down a werewolf colony in the woods, and they are on Operation Hybrid, in which Klaus tries to form an army of werewolf/vampire hybrids for some reason (an eeeevil reason, no doubt). Anyway, after turning werewolf Ray, they turn the rest of the wolves. But it doesn’t work and all of the poor werewolves end up dead. Bad Klaus! But before the wolf massacre, Ray bolts and ends up biting Stefan (but don’t worry, he is OK). Ray ends up running into Elena, Alaric and Damon, but after they tie him to a tree, he starts to turn into a werewolf — in the middle of the day! That’s not cool, so they all try to run away, but Ray, in wolf form, catches up to them. He is ready to attack Elena when Damon lures him away from Elena and Alaric. As Damon fights Ray in the woods, Stefan saves Damon’s life.
Later, as Damon heads back to the car where Elena and Alaric are safe, he has realized that Stefan isn’t really gone and he can come back. Now both Elena AND Damon won’t give up! Delena fans probably totally freaked out at the scene in Elena’s room when Damon gets her to admit she worries about what happens to him. Damon is happy, of course, and tells her that when he brings Stefan back, he wants her to remember how she felt when he was gone. We thought they were going to kiss, but not yet. It’s coming, though, right? Right? Back in the woods, Klaus is bummed that his hybrid army isn’t working out because he did everything he was supposed to. There was a moment when he mentions Elena being dead (because that’s what Klaus thought) and there was a flicker in Klaus’ eye that made us think that maybe he knows she’s alive. So does that mean she’s in trouble? Hopefully Stefan will protect her. Can’t wait to see what happens next with these guys!
Meanwhile, Tyler’s mom gives him vervaine in his coffee after knocking out/kidnapping Caroline. She thought he was a vampire! Silly Mrs. Lockwood! When he tastes vervaine again later at the Mystic Grill, he suspects his mom is up to no good. And she’s not, she totally called some mysterious man to “take care of” Caroline. Oh no! We love Caroline! So Tyler decides to show his mom who HE is and has her watch as he turns into a werewolf. Seeing that her son isn’t entirely human makes her feel bad for hating Caroline, so she calls up the man who took Caroline and said she changed her mind about getting rid of our favorite girly vamp. But mystery man seems set in his ways and at the end we see Caroline chained up in a creepy dungeon as the man walks in and…. we find out it’s her DAD!
And in the ghostly storyline, Jeremy and Matt hang out and ghost Vicki comes for a visit! She said she wants to come back to life, but then *crash!* broken glass and ghost Anna! She tells Jeremy not to trust Vicki. OK, we don’t know what’s going on with this storyline, but we LOVE it. Plus, Jeremy is hot, so we’re in. We can’t wait for next week, what about you?
Best Quote: “Here Doggy, Doggy!” – Damon
Hottest Guy: Tyler! He’s so attractive…but what makes him even hotter is how much he cares for Caroline. It really showed through in this episode since he came out to his mom about being a werewolf (and that Caroline being a vampire isn’t a bad thing).
Creepiest Moment: The newly-formed hybrids bleeding from their eyes! Totally gruesome, but cool.
Scariest Moment: This is a toss up between Elena being face-to-face with a hybrid and Jer seeing Vicki and Anna while Matt was with him. We need more explanation for that whole situation!
Cutest Moment: Elena and Damon at the end of the episode. They have a sweet relationship. Maybe if the Stefan thing doesn’t work out she’ll just be with Damon? Remember, Katherine has said it’s okay to love them both.
Biggest Plot Twist: Caroline’s dad showing up! Wow, that was so unexpected and the fact that he may kill his only child is even crazier.
